Well, that’s just the way I feel (a new beginning) when I listen to our President speak. We really do have a chance at a new beginning. A beginning of coming together to work out our differences. After all we are all very much the same and want the same things out of life. We want our children to succeed and be happy. We want to be able to pursue careers or endeavors that give us meaning and a reason to be. We want our planet to flourish. We want to be an integral part of the whole.
President Obama has the same views as I do in that he wants to find the common good, the common thread each side can hold on to to understand and work together. Not the differences that keeps us apart.
He also knows that without dialogue there can only be war. Without a meeting of the minds, without listening to each side there is no hope. War no longer works. We have been shown this time and time again. It doesn’t work.
This leaves communication. Dialogue with open minds ready to receive what the other side has to say. We expect ourselves and especially our children to listen to each other before we/they come to conclusions, why don’t we as countries.
I don’t think any of our countries are very good at this. We puff up and say we know what’s right for the whole world, and that’s that. You’re either with us or against us. We don’t want input from anyone else. What are we afraid of? We are afraid of looking weak. That’s what it is. Shame on all of us. This is for sure old thinking.
I think the new way of looking at things will be - I hope I have come across as open minded, and wanting to work our differences out. How can I help both sides to come together? I truly believe with President Obama we do have “A New Beginning.”
I’m not naïve, I know this isn’t going to work for all people, but I do believe it will work for most. When people throughout the world really see we are open minded and want to hear and are willing to compromise sometimes, others will see and maybe take a chance.
Yes, compromising is the other component in all this. You can’t just say your willing to listen and then do it all your way anyway. There truly does have to be willingness for compromise.
I believe most of us are drawn to this type of individual. The one who seems to make things go smoother. Has an easy way of being, go with the flow type. Open minded, can see both sides of any situation. The one you can’t wait to share your problems with because you know he’s going to find an easy, simple, non confrontational way of making things work out. The kind of person I strive to be.
